The users are not allowed to create subdirectories under the root directory. All the files created by the several users are present in the root directory only. In it all files are contained in same directory which make it easy to support and understand. But further, no subdirectory is created by the users. It really isn't what I wanted to hear but I figured it would end up on something like that.. Not to say that it's impossible, but should be really hard as even the workarounds aren't quite what I was looking for.. Guess I'll have to stay with reading pptx. I'm not closing just already as someone might have another idea maybe.. It's certainly not impossible, but you might wind up spending a LOT of time implementing this only to support a "legacy" format.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on the pptx format exclusively. Once you have it up and running you can focus on building some sort of ppt to pptx converter. Lastly, you can always post a note saying that users should upgrade their ppt docs to pptx.
